Our Verdict

The Teeki Hot Pant is designed for hot yoga devotees, and if it's not yoga unless you're sweating profusely, then these might be the pants for you. They're made of a lightweight material that is highly breathable and easy to move in so that you never feel overheated during your practice - as a result of your clothing, anyway. What we didn't like was the fit; there's no elastic in the waistband, which leads to the pants continually sliding down throughout your practice. We were constantly adjusting the waistband in fear we might end up mooning someone, which isn't exactly the kind of practice we want to participate in.

Many of us have been sucked into the enticing patterns that Teeki provides, but when practicing in a lighter fabric/pattern, we also noticed that these pants can be somewhat see-through. This time around, we tested the darker "clouds" pattern. We didn't have the same issue with the material being see-through, but from past knowledge, we would take care in choosing a lighter pattern. If you love hot yoga and thin pants to practice in, we preferred the Onzie Capri Pant and the Lululemon Train ⅞ over this model.

Bottom Line Good for hot yoga and Pilates as they're breathable, but have a troubling waistband. With a great balance between compression and breathability, these pants are buttery soft and perform exceptionally! These are the perfect all-around tight, great for most yoga styles, as well as hiking, climbing, biking, or running.A good pant for the price that will make you question whether the expensive ones are really worth it.A staple pair for your closet!

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Teeki Hot Pants is made of 79% P.E.T (Polyethylene Terephthalate - what water and soda bottles are made of), and 21% Spandex. Teeki has dozens of prints and solid colors to choose from, and also makes them in a capri length. These are available in sizes XS-L.

Performance Comparison

These pants are a great choice for hot yoga or any time you need some extra breathability from your tights.
These pants are a great choice for hot yoga or any time you need some extra breathability from your tights.

Breathability

These pants ranked near the top of the pack for breathability. They consist of a breathable, sweat-wicking, and quick-drying fabric. Although they are exceptionally breathable, both the Onzie Capri and Lululemon Train 7/8 provide a better compression to breathability ratio. In other words, you don't die in that incredibly heated class when the teacher makes you hold warrior two for just five breaths longer. You also won't constantly be readjusting your pants in fear of the waistband slowly creeping down to expose your bum to your fellow yogis (ah hem, Teeki).

Ease of Movement

We appreciated the way this pant moved with us, no matter the pose. The loose waistband and thinner material mean that there is nothing to get in the way of forward bends, and there is a lot of stretch in the fabric. That being said, sometimes they moved a little too much, and although the material didn't entirely impede our practice, we found ourselves leaving our yogi mindset to constantly adjust the pants.

Comfort and Fit

We weren't in love with the fit of these pants. After reading online reviews, we ordered it a size larger than normal, and that was a good decision; although we could easily get the pants on, the fit itself was off. The ankles are sewn very tight, and the waistband has no elastic in it — it's just more of the same material of the body — and its cut is on the loose side. We imagine Teeki did this on purpose so they won't dig into you - like some of the other models we have in our fleet. The Teeki pant doesn't offer any compression or retention, and every time you assume a forward fold to begin a flow sequence, you can't help but notice the pants slowly start to creep down your waist, dangerously close to your bum. While we like the overall idea of being comfortable, we found the loose fit doesn't allow for the greatest yoga practice.

Lacking elastic in the waist these pants suffer from the dreaded "downward creep".

Durability

We didn't have any specific durability issues during testing, but due to the thin nature of the fabric, they're not the pant to wear on a hike with sharp bushes or cacti around. The bonus to the smooth material though is that they are incredibly hard to pill, if they ever do. If you're tired of replacing your yoga pants every few months because of pilling in high friction areas, like between your legs, then these pants are a good choice.

Style

The style of this pant was hit or miss for our testers. While the range of prints available includes some pretty rad prints, it's been pointed out that sometimes the placement of the intricate designs is a little off. This round, we tested the clouds pattern. In the past, some of our testers have been allured by the fancy prints and bought a couple of the lighter patterns. They quickly found out that the thin material that makes these pants so breathable is also completely see-through. We would be aware when buying some of the lighter color patterns and instead stick to the darker sheens that don't seem to have the same level of see thoroughness. That being said, be careful wearing any brightly colored underwear before assuming down dog in these leggings.

We recommend sticking to the darker colors to keep the see-through-factor to a minimum.

Best Applications

These pants are best for people that love to sweat in a hot room, make a fashion statement when they practice, and also for those who have nothing in their tummy or bum region that they want compressed or held in place.

Value

These pants retail for $72, which is a nice price point compared to some of the $90 and up models out there. However, we much preferred the fit and functionality of the Onzie Capri, which is only $59.

Conclusion

As hot yoga and Pilates classes have grown in popularity, so too have the apparel options for those practitioners. The Teeki Hot Pant is a great addition to the mix, and offers a different construction than the typical "suck it in and hold it up" designs. However, this didn't really work for us on a comfort level. And while some of the patterns that this pant comes in are more flattering than others, we would be aware of the thin nature of these leggings and stay away from any of the lighter colored patterns.
