Gray Grandy grew up in rural Vermont but followed his love of the mountains to the west coast for college. While working on his BS in Forest Ecology in Washington, he started coming to Tahoe in the winter to ski. After college, he delved into many facets of the outdoor rescue world. Winters are filled by a full-time professional ski patrol job at Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Summers have included teaching Technical Rope Rescue and Wilderness First Responder classes, wrenching at a bike shop, doing rope access construction projects, and commercial salmon fishing in Alaska. He also spent many years as a volunteer on the El Dorado County Search and Rescue team. For Gray, spring is the best time to take backcountry ski trips throughout the world before he fills his recreational time with mountain bikes on Tahoe's pristine trials for the summer and fall. He also appreciates a good rest day making food and splitting firewood as preparation for the next winter's wrath.
